Primate Labs' Geekbench uses all available cores and threads to simulate real-world applications ranging from PDF rendering and speech recognition to machine learning, while GFXBench 5.0 stress-tests both low-level routines like texturing and high-level, game-like image rendering that exercises graphics and compute shaders. Two other Android benchmarks focus on the CPU and GPU respectively. It was second only to the 11th Gen Core i5 Asus in CrXPRT 2 and PCMark for Android, and it took the gold medal in Basemark Web (though all the contenders, except the lowly, Celeron-based Spin 311, acquitted themselves ably).

The Lenovo's Core i3-1115G4 processor has only two cores instead of four or more, but it proved quite perky. The screen bezels are medium-thin there's just a bit of flex if you grasp their corners or mash the keyboard deck. While that one's aluminum lid and ABS plastic bottom were Graphite Gray, the new unit is a handsome dark shade called Abyss Blue. We reviewed a model with a 10th Generation Core i3, half the RAM, and eMMC storage in July 2020. The Flex 5 is a convertible laptop with a 13.3-inch touch screen. (It was even nicer when Costco took $100 off as we started this review, but unfortunately the sale has ended.) Only a ho-hum display panel keeps it from a Editors' Choice recommendation you still might want to leverage that price-club membership if that sale drops again. At Costco, our test unit is $549.99 with an 11th Generation Core i3 chip, 8GB of RAM, and a 128GB NVMe solid-state drive, and it's one of the nicest Chromebooks we've encountered. On at this writing, a configuration of the IdeaPad Flex 5 Chromebook is $337.49 with a sad Intel Celeron CPU, sadder 4GB of memory, and saddest 32GB of eMMC flash storage. It's amazing what a difference a-well, a complete overhaul of everything under the hood makes.
